From Newfound Gap,
following the Appalachian Trail
onto the Boulevard Trail
to Mt. LeConte Lodge,
the vistas on a clear morning
are phenomenal.
Shown here at dawn,
before the sun peeked
over the mountains,
this view is above Gatlinburg, Tennessee
and is part of the
Great Smoky Mountain
National Park.
The rustic cabins are where
the hikers stay overnight
but reservations
must be made
almost a year in advance!
The hike up is fairly arduous
but well-worth the effort.
The trail is lush and beautiful
with many overlooks
along the way.
A nice way to descend
is by the Alum Bluff Cave Trail
which is one of the prettiest
and most interesting trails
in the Smoky Mountains.
