and beautiful sections
of the Appalachian Trail
are in the Smoky Mountains
of Tennessee and North Carolina...
Morning mists in the cool temperatures
of late Spring add a touch of fog
pierced by the morning sunlight
through the trees.
The trail is rocky here,
leading through the forest canopy,
following the ridge
between the two states.
Gnarly tree roots criss-cross
over the path
and make for beautiful photo opportunities.
This piece of the Appalachian
is near the trail head
at Newfound Gap
and connects to the Boulevard Trail
up to Mt LeConte
where the hiker can stay
overnight at the lodge...
