... There is nothing as spectacular
as a sunset
in the Appalachian Mountains
from a high overlook.
This beautiful evening sky
was captured at the top
of the scenic overlook
in the Chilhowee Recreation Area
of Tennessee. Facing west,
the Blue Ridge Mountain cliff
is high above the town
of Benton.
The Ocoee River Gorge
and Parksville Lake
are just below to the left.
This area is all in
the Cherokee National Forest
and is full of hiking trails
and great camping spots.
This recreation area
has a high mountain lake
and picnic areas
next to the wonderful campground.
Several hiking trails meander
through the woods
and one in particular
is especially pretty,
leading to the Benton waterfall.
Enjoy the Smoky Mountains
at their best!
