Artist's Description
Starting the hike
up the Alum Bluff Cave Trail
early in the morning,
the light through the mist
was incredible.
The foliage on the trees
was in full Spring,
lushly green and tender.
The trees are old
and the roots grow
across the rocky trail
in a weave of interesting patterns
like an octopus.
This pretty trail follows the creek
for a mile, then climbs
up to Alum Cave.
As the hiker continues,
the trail joins the Appalachian Trail
on the way toward Charlie's Bunion
and Mont LeConte
along the Boulevard Trail.
All of these trails
in the Appalachian mountains
of Tennessee and North Carolina
are the prettiest and most scenic
in the Smokies...
