...Benton Falls,
located in the Cherokee National Forest,
part of the Chilhowee Recreation Area
is gorgeous!
The waterfall is
about 35 feet high
and the water cascades
over the granite rock face.
The water is lighter
in the dry season
and much heavier
after a nice rain.
The trail leading
to the falls
is very pretty
and quite easily traversed.
The path is wide
with just a few undulations,
quite flat until the walker
gets to the zig-zagging walkway
to descend to the falls.
The best time to visit this area
is in the late spring to early summer
for the rhododendrums
around the falls,
or in the mid to late autumn
when the trail is full of glorious fall color.
The sunlight striking the falls
on this particular morning
was creating a
beautiful little rainbow
in it's mist....
